I was glad to be on a panel on “My Face: Social Networking in the Business Arena”, held at the Tower Club on 10/1 in Tysons Corner Vienna VA. The event was hosted by TelecomHUB (www.telecomhub.org) Barry Toser of Mobilians. inc

Usefulness of Linkedin.
- Find employees
- Find jobs
- Get feedback from peers by asking and answering questions
- Link to your websites and blogs and get traffic
- Get a link on Google ( I tired this out using Google to find the links for the panelists and all of them have Linkedin links i the top 10)
- Dissenting opinion : Too many pitches for jobs and recommendations/
Joining new Social networks :
- Every network you create a profile gives you a link in Google
- Judge the top networks you want to join and the time you can spend
How is all this going to be monetized:
- Terry had some good stats that said that the cost per $ of rev was very low in Adsense and Adwords but was higher in social networks advertising
- Like all things 2.0 people expect it to be free first
How do you get rid of old tuff on your Facebook/MySpace profiles
- In some cases it is best to delete the profile and start over again
- If you are overwhelmed by friends on Facebook you can request to transfer the content to a page.
- Do not try to have 2 profiles on Facebook
Location based applications
- Have not achieved the critical mass
- Some privacy concerns , Google’s Dodgeball was not popular.
Customer Service on Social networks
- Dell, SouthWest, Network Solutions, Comcast are on Twitter.
- Network Solutions we monitor and answer customers on Twitter, Forums, blogs etc
