As summer turns to fall, shoppers and retailers alike begin thinking about the holidays. While most retailers have heard customer feedback that they don’t want to see Christmas trees in June, it’s a good idea to identify and use this increase in traffic to catapult your online store into the best holiday season it’s ever had.

This holiday season, try using seasonal graphics to give your site an extra boost in holiday spirit and sales. Adding holiday themed graphics to your ecommerce website can have multiple benefits which include:

  • Making it apparent that your site is active and updated regularly
  • Suggesting that the holiday is near and that it is time to think about gift giving
  • Making the association that your site is go-to place for holiday gifts
  • Getting customers into the holiday spirit and items related to the season
  • Reminding customers that while they may be on your site for personal items they should think about shopping for the many gifts they will need to buy for the upcoming holiday

To make the task of finding gifts easier for them, consider adding a gift icon or graphic linking to a page of gift ideas.

While Christmas is the most obvious holiday, try adding special graphics and promotions at other times of the year depending on your product offering.

The fall season, with its crisp weather and unique scents and flavors, should be highlighted if you are selling scented candles or other items that resonant with the season. Grouping these items well under the chosen theme would be a helpful customer experience and a perfect way to tie-in the holiday sentiment.

Valentines’ Day can be a great time to add love-related graphics and promotions while Easter can be a perfect time to advertise items reminiscent of spring and renewal.

Combine Graphics with Related Promotions

For an even stronger effect, try to combine these graphics with unique promotions whenever possible. For instance, promote a sale on appropriate gifts for Valentines’ Day or offer a discount when purchasing multiples of an item to encourage gift purchases.

Finding Holiday Graphics

Many holiday icons, photos and illustrations can be found online at iStockphoto or similar websites.
