Social Media & Small Business : Taking your first steps in Social Media

Yesterday I was lucky to meet 40 enthusiastic small business owners members of the Calvert County Chamber Women to Women Networking Group. When the attendees introduced themselves it was amazing to see the range of businesses represented ( restaurants, dentists, business developers, web developers, designers, caterers, jewelers, artists, goat farmers…). The discussion was very interesting and the top topics were.

  • Privacy concerns between Facebook profile and Facebook Pages
  • Time to start their social media program
  • Integrating social media into their email marketing
  • How do you use Yelp?
  • How to have conversations on Twitter

I am pretty sure I will get enough follow-up questions to judge if I have been successful :)

Here are some pictures taken at the event ( Thanks Susan MCquikin of Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland )

The Calvert County Chamber Women to Women Networking Group provides a more intimate forum for small- to medium-sized women owned companies looking to expand their network of business contacts, generate new business leads, and learn the most effective strategies for networking. Members take part in facilitated networking sessions and have the opportunity to develop new relationships!

Thank you Calvert Chamber and Carole Thieme of Thieme Creative Media

Great presentation of some much needed information for small businesses. Many of those working in the offline world just don't see the need to create a strong presence online but the reasons are becoming more and more apparent every day.

The relationship (socialationship), is the key and the center of it all. It takes the effort of making real connections to translate to success online.

Thanks Shashi for sharing your presentation!
