We have been updating this blog with information for customers. Here are instructions for what to do and look for to make sure your WordPress install is functioning properly:

1.  ”Error connecting to your database” ( This is not a hack)

  • Login to your Network Solutions account
  • Go to Web Hosting >>choose the hosting package by name
  • Go to Configurations>> Database manager
  • Click on the link “show: and this gives you your database username and password
  • Next use FileManager or your FTP to open the file wp-config.php

You will see these lines with the username and password
/** MySQL database username */

define( ‘DB_USER’, ‘THE USER NAME GOES HERE’ );

/** MySQL database password */

  • define( ‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘PASSWORD GOES HERE’ );
  • Compare and make sure the passwords are the same in both place if not change the password in the WP Config file.

2.  One Click Install Plugins:

  • If you are using the Network Solutions one click install
  • Login to your Network Solutions account
  • Web Hosting >>choose the hosting package by name
  • Go to “Site Enhancements” >> “Open Source Library”
  • Click on “Manage” for the application you have installed
  • Click on the “Repair this blog” button
  • This should reinstall the application without affecting your database
  • However if you have made any custom changes to plugin themes or code you should check that as well.
  • If you have not used our open source library please consider a fresh clean reinstall of your plugin.

3.  Reinstalling WordPress Themes:

  • This is only if you did not use the Network Solutions one-click WordPress Install
  • This is suggested only if you believe there maybe residual code exisiting in your WordPress.  This could need expertise with WordPress installations so we advice you contact your webmaster/web developer if you have installed a custom theme. Our support team can be reached at listen@networksolutions.com if you have questions.

4.  Resubmitting your site to Google:

If you or your website visitors at any time got a warning from Google during a site visit, we recommend you submit your site to Google for review. Google has posted details of the process here: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=45432

      Wow!!!
      Why would I do that. I don't have only one site.
      It's easier for me: change my service provider.

      I used to work for Network Solutions doing Tech Support. The job puts you in a tough spot between maintaining corporate guidelines and trying to assist the customer without over extending beyond what you are obligated to do. I can't complain too much about my service, as I have been with netsol as a customer for nearly 5 years.

      But, I have numerous sites that don't appear to be down until you try to access the wordpress dashboard. When I go to the /wp-admin page, i get the broken redirect. I've tried reuploading files and double checking my wp-admin.php file, but cannot get a resolution. The dashboard is inaccessible.

      I'm at my wit's end and I cannot afford to be made to look like a fool in front of clients.

      Feel free to look for yourself: http://www.roshkoch.com/wp-admin/

      I also read through http://blog.networksolutions.com/2010/update-fo… and found it to be of no use to my situation, other than to explain what happened.

      The little Filipino gal I talked to earlier was also of no use to my situation. She just wanted to get me off the phone, promised to send me an email with information about the issue and a screen shot (which never came) and shook me off like a wet booger.

      A few minutes of downtime isn't a big deal, so I wasn't pissed yesterday. But not being able to access my dashboard … that's no good.

      Help me Obi wan Kenobi, you're my only hope…

      Sincerely,

      Rosh Koch

      1. Restore Database.
      2. Change permissions on WP-config.php to: 750

      It's work…. for now.

      Network Solutions informed me that my WordPress site and blog had been hacked over the weekend. They've cleaned it up and restored a backup copy of my site. However, when I now edit a page or post and try to preview the new page, I get a message that I do not have permission to preview drafts. I am the only WordPress user of this site. Where do I need to go to fix this?

      I would just like to mention that may wordpress blog is now back to working just fine (as far as I can tell), and so is the main site to which it is attached.

      My original problem was only in the blog and it had something to do with “angles,” as one techie volunteered to me. The CSS (cascading style sheets) didn't work properly. Visitors couldn't comment, and I couldn't log-in. All the content displayed, but in altered format. Problem started about four days ago. Fortunately, I didn't have time to work on it, and NetSol fixed it without my help. I say “fortunately” because I probably couldn't have fixed it.

      I'm grateful to NetSol for fixing it in relatively short order.

      that may explain the message I have been getting “you do not have permission to do that”
      I am not attempting to do new posts until this situation is resolved but it was on an edit. I'll send you a screen shot.

      Also one of my advisors is saying: “I'm still thinking this has something to do with the permissions on your folders with regard to write/execute being allowed.” Has that been an issue for others?

      It seems that NS has been under some sort of attack recently and have dutifully forgotten to notify their customers about this wide-spread problem.

      I set up a Drupal powered website for a client of mine. Lo and behold I find this morning that the site has been hacked with a script injected on the footer. The script fails to initiate, but the whole site is down with nothing more than this message:

      “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /data/22/2/66/58/2066058/user/2264930/htdocs/index.php on line 40″

      I've replaced the index.php file several times today, but it keeps getting whacked. I called support and they are going to 'escalate' the problem to some engineer.

      I use several other hosting providers and have NEVER seen such a problem before.
