More POP step by step instructions
In days not so long ago, Customer Service regularly heard from Customers sitting at their giant sized big box computers trying to figure out how to set up their nsMail to go to their POP client of choice (ie. Outlook, Eudora, Entourage, etc.). I remember it was the next “big thing.” Call it a sign of the times, but now we’re hearing regularly from Customers setting up their mobile devices instead. From iPads® to Tablets and Droid to iPhone®, our Customers have gone mobile- for real. When I first got my iPhone in mid 2010 (I know, I was so behind.. but not anymore!) I opened the box and wanted to be able to do everything on it without having to work through tons of instructions and guides, etc. That’s why I chose to share this topic in our “How Do I” series. Setting your iPhone up to grab your nsMail can be a piece of cake. Let’s do this!
Piece of Cake? I Want a Slice!
Here’s the no-frills how to guide!
- Tap Settings
- Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars
- Tap Add Account
- Tap Other
- Tap Add Mail Account
- Enter the display name (This is whatever you want! Most folks use first/last name here)
- Enter your full email address (example@me.com)
- Enter your email password (the password you set up when you configured your emailbox in Account Manager)
- Enter a Description (this distinguishes this email account from other email accounts you might have set up on your iPhone®)
- Tap Save or Next
Now, your iPhone will look up the account information.
- Tap POP
- In the Incoming Mail Server section:
- Enter mail.INSERTYOURDOMAIN.COM (use your domain name there!) in the Host Name field
- In the User Name field, enter your full email address (the whole thing!)
- Enter your mailbox password in the Password field (your iPhone® may already have this filled in for you)
In the Outgoing Mail Server section:
- Enter smtp.INSERTYOURDOMAIN.COM (use your domain name there!) in the Host Name field
- In the User Name field, enter your full email address (the whole thing!)
- Enter your mailbox password in the Password field (your iPhone® may already have this filled in for you)
- Tap Save
Your iPhone® will attempt to connect to the server and verify that it can connect.
- A box will pop up 2 times that says “Cannot Connect Using SSL”- tap Yes both times!
- Once your iPhone® verifies that it can connect, you’ll be taken to the screen that shows you a list of the email accounts you have configured… and that’s it!
But I Want the Frills Version!
Ok, if you’d rather have some screenshots and a more colorful guide, we have that for you too! Check out this PDF in our Support Center. The instructions are the same for iPhone® 3G, 3GS, and 4- just some minor differences like instead of a button that reads, “Save,” it reads, “Next.” See, no biggie! Just a piece of cake- minus the calories!
