Configuring a BOGO Discount

Introduction

To offer customers incentives to purchase more of a product, you can configure a Buy-One-Get-One (BOGO) Discount.  This code allows a visitor to buy a certain quantity of product and get a discount on a "reward" quantity.  Reward quantities can be set to be a dollar amount off, percentage off, or free.  For example:  buy 5 red pens and get 2 red pens free.

BOGO is a powerful marketing tool and can drive larger ticket orders and more sales!

Configuring a BOGO Discount

When configuring a BOGO discount you will have a handful of customization options (Figure D) to allow you to test different offers.

  • Discount Name - This is an internal way to describe the discount to distinguish it from other offers.
  • Description - This will give a user more room to enter additional detail around the offer and purpose.
  • Discount Type - Previously selected as BOGO. Click here to learn more about Discount Types.
  • Price Difference - Select from one of the below options.  Selection of this will modify the Quantity Discounts section options.
    • Amount - This will allow you to offer a $ amount off the Reward Qty.
    • Percentage - This will take a % off of the Reward Qty.
    • Free - This will give the Reward away at 100% off.
  • Price Levels - Select all the Price Levels that are eligible for this BOGO discount.
  • Quantity Discounts - Here you will configure the BOGO scenario.
    • Tigger Quantity - How many products does it require to trigger the discount? This will trip the discount, giving the user an opportunity to get discounts on the Reward Qty.
    • Reward Quantity - If the Trigger Qty is tripped, the site visitor can now get a discount up to this many additional units.  The user will be required to add the products on their own (Ex. If it is buy 2 get 3 free, and the user adds 4 products to their cart they will pay for 2 and get 2 free).
    • Amount - This field is dependent on the Price Difference setting. If it is set to Amount, it will be a $ amount taken off the Reward Qty. If Price Difference is set to Percentage, it will take that % off. If Price Difference is set to Free, this box will gray-out and take 100% off the Reward Qty.
  • Products - This section you will configure which products are eligible for the discounts.
    • Products Available - This will list the available products for the BOGO discount. You can search and find specific products. NOTE:  you can only have 1 BOGO discount code per product.
    • Selected Products - After finding the appropriate product, click the double-arrow to apply the discount to the product.
  • Valid Dates - You can configure when the discount is available here.
    • Always Valid - This discount is offered all the time and will be manually deactivated by the store owner.
    • Valid from - This will turn the code on and off during a specific time. This option is great for "Weekend Specials" or other timely events.
    • Not currently valid - This is a deactivated status and will prevent the code from applying.
  • Usage - A store owner can determine how the code is applied and how often.
    • Automatic Discount - This will offer it to anyone that visits the site and adds products to the cart.
    • Coupon Code or Link - To be used when the offer is more exclusive. Enter a custom code (Figure E), which can be distributed multiple ways. The generated link can be placed on websites (external or your own with a banner promoting the offer). This can be embedded in an email as part of a marketing campaign for reward customers. The final way it can be redeemed is if the user enters the code in manually during the checkout process.
    • Applicable With - When other discount codes are available, you can determine if this code can be combined with it. This is only available when you activate the Coupon Code option.
