To point your domain name to a DNS location, you can click on the “Domain Name Server” quick link to point your domain name to a DNS location.

If your website is located with a different service provider, you can edit your DNS (Domain Name Server) to connect or point your domain name to the name servers of a different hosting provider.

Please note that if you do change your domain name servers, you will lose the ability to use your Network Solutions website, e-mail or Web Forwarding associated with that domain.

Section 8: Advanced DNS Records

Script: Advanced DNS allows you to manage your DNS records (A, MX, CNAME, TXT and SRV Records) for individual services, such as changing IP addresses or modifying an email delivery address.

This option is only recommended for advanced users who want to use a domain with some Network Solutions® services and some non-Network Solutions services. For example, you might continue to use Network Solutions email, but host your website elsewhere. Or, you can keep your Network Solutions website, but use a different provider for email.

Click the Edit Advanced DNS records to make any changes.

Script (corresponding to each section): An IP address is a unique number which identifies a computer and its location on the Internet. The A Record indicates the IP address of a domain. By changing the A record you can direct your IP address from one host to another.

MX records are used to determine the delivery route for your e-mail. For example, if you want to host your own mail server for your domain, you must specify the mail server names as MX records.

CNAME records allow you to create alias names that correspond to existing Internet host records, if you wish to point your host to another host instead of another IP address.

TXT records were originally created to allow you to enter arbitrary text into a DNS record. This record can be used to implement the SPF records, which help to stop email spammers from forging the "From" fields in an e-mail.

An SRV Record allows a user to locate a specific service on a network rather than a specific machine.  For example, a printer, VOIP, FTP, or other similar services.
