When you're creating new Keywords, use the Keyword Suggestion Tool buy clicking the "Suggest Keyword" button.  This Keyword Suggestion tool will not only return popular Keywords based on the Keyword you entered, but it will also show the Advertiser Competition and Average Search Volume.  You'll want to select Keywords that are 1. Relevant to your Ads, 2. Have high search volume, and 3. Low competition.
