How To Password Protect A Folder With FrontPage
Note: Microsoft FrontPage extensions are no longer available on new accounts, because they are no longer supported by Microsoft.
To password-protect a folder in FrontPage:
1. Open your Web site in FrontPage. 2. Click on Folders in the Views list, right-click on the folder you want to password protect, then click on Convert to Web 3. A dialog box will open asking you to confirm, click on the Yes button – the folder will now appear with a blue globe inside of it, indicating it's a Web 4. Right-click the folder and select Open 5. Click on Tools in the navigation menu, click on Security then click on Permissions 6. Click on the Settings tab, select the Use unique permissions for this Web, then click on the Apply button 7. Click on the Users tab, then click on Add 8. Type the name of each user that will have access to the folder along with a password for each user – be sure to indicate that the users are allowed to Browse this Web 9. Click on the OK button after adding the users 10. In the permissions dialog box, select Only registered users have browser access 11. Click on the OK button Note Do not try to set password protected directories on a FrontPage Web site using the Hosting Control Panel. This will break the FrontPage extensions and may require your Web site to be reset in order to get it working again.
