How To Purchase An nsHosting Shared Package To Use With An Existing Domain Name Not Registered With Network Solutions
Network Solutions® makes it affordable to host your Web site and offers three different packages depending on your needs.
If your domain name is currently registered elsewhere, we recommend you first transfer your domain name registration to Network Solutions so the appropriate resource records are automatically updated when you make changes to your Hosting Package. To purchase Web Hosting for an existing domain name that will remain registered with another registrar:
1. Open a Web browser (e.g., Netscape®, Microsoft® Internet Explorer, etc.)
2. Type http://www.networksolutions.com in the address line then press the enter key
3. Highlight the Hosting tab and then click on the Web Hosting option
a. Review the three Hosting packages, click on the Add to Cart button under the package you want to purchase to proceed to the next Step.
**Note: If you are not sure what hosting package you need click on the FAQs hyperlink in the upper right hand corner.
a. Read the Frequently Asked Questions to determine what package meets your needs.
b. Once you have determined what package is best for you click on the Add to Cart button under the package you want to purchase
4. Select the button for Send me a Coupon
**Note: You will receive this coupon via email and will use this coupon when you start your domain name transfer.
5. Select the radio button to the left of the platform (Unix® or Windows) you want for your Web Hosting package then click on the Continue button
6. Select the term periods you would like to purchase then click on the Secure Checkout button
**Note: If you are a new customer
a. Under New Customer you will see a checkbox that needs to be selected if the account is being registered as a business or organization and not an individual.
b. Type your Account Holder (Account Contact) Information and Login Information in the text boxes then click on the Continue button
**Note: If you are a current customer
a. Log in with your user id and password
b. If you have more than one account, select the account number that you would like your new Hosting package to be held in and then click on the Continue button
7. If requested, type your credit card information in the text boxes
8. Select the radio button next to the option “Yes, I want peace of mind. Renew my services in advance to prevent service interruptions.” if you would like Network Solutions to automatically renew your services at the end of their term
9. Click on the link(s) to read the Service Agreement(s) and when completed select the check box(es) then click on the “I agree to the Service Agreement – Continue” button
Now that you've purchased your Web Hosting package, you need to assign the domain name to the hosting package:
10. Type http://www.networksolutions.com in the address line then press the enter key.
11. Click on the Manage Account tab and log in with your Network Solutions® User id and Password.
12. Click on the NsHosting™ (Web Hosting) tab
**Note: If you have multiple hosting packages you will need to select the hosting package you are working with.
13. In the Manage Hosting Domains & Sub Domains section, click on the Assign New button
14. In the drop down for Select Domain choose the option Add domain not listed and then click on the Select button
15. Type the domain name that you want to assign to your Hosting Package in the Domain Name text box
16. In the drop down for Directory select the directory to which you want to point the domain name then click on the Select button
**Note: To create a new directory pointer
a. Choose the Add directory not listed from the dropdown menu and click the Select button
b. Type the directory name in the text box then click on the Select button
17. A confirmation page will appear verifying that your domain name has been assigned to the Hosting Package and providing the Domain Name Server (DNS) settings.
18. You will need to update the Domain Name Server (DNS) settings listed at your current registrar - the confirmation page will provide the resource records that you will need to update your current registrar
**Note: We recommend that you transfer your domain name registrations to Network Solutions so the appropriate resource records are automatically updated when you make changes to your Hosting Package. If you will be transferring the domain name to Network Solutions we recommend waiting until after the transfer is complete before assigning the domain name to the Web Hosting Package.
If you have just moved your domain name to Network Solutions DNS servers, it will take approximately 12-36 hours for the domain name information to propagate to servers world-wide. Once the propagation process is complete and you've published your Web site, it will be viewable on the Internet.
Only the Account Holder / Primary Contact and Administrative Contact of record, on the account, can purchase or renew services for the domain name. The Technical Contact on the account cannot purchase or renew services. More about Account Contacts. Explanation Of Account Contacts
