I Have Published My Web Site But It Is Not Visible On The Internet
There could be several reasons why your Web site isn’t visible on the Internet. Please review the following situations to see if one applies to you:
Is this a brand new domain name?
If your domain name is newly registered, it will take approximately 24-48 hours for the domain name information to propagate to servers world-wide. Once the propagation process is complete and you’ve published your Web site, it will be viewable on the Internet. In the meantime, you can access your Web site via the IP address in order to upload files.
Are you using the correct Name Servers?
If not, then your domain name is pointing somewhere else. To verify this:
- Open a Web browser (e.g., Netscape, Microsoft Internet Explorer, etc.)
- Type http://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/whois/index.jhtml in the address line then press the enter key
- Type your domain name (e.g., jimsbikes.com) in the text box then click on the Search button
- At the bottom of the Whois Record For, under the Domain servers in listed order:, the first two domain name servers should be NSXX.WORLDNIC.COM (where XX represents either a one or two digit number)
- If the domain name servers do not end with WORLDNIC.COM, if they are pointing to your old hosting company, you will need to contact your registrar company (the company that you purchased your domain through) and request that they change the name server information to point to your domain name. To obtain the DNS information:
§ Access the Hosting Control Panel
§ Click on your Web Hosting Package
§ In the top section, under your package type, click on the DNS Record Information link
Your domain name information will take approximately 24-48 hours to propagate to servers world-wide. Once the propagation process is complete and you’ve published your Web site, it will be viewable on the Internet.
Is your Web site password protected?
If so, then visitors would not be able to view your Web site without knowing the password. To check this:
- Access the Hosting Control Panel
- Click on the Security Center button then click on Password Protection
- Click on the Web Directories tab
- If the directory you are trying to access has the check box next to Password Protected selected then unselect it and click on the OK button
Are you missing an index or default page in the directory you are trying to access?
If so, then the server will fail to find a file to display. Verify that you have an index or default page in the directory.
