Getting Started with Online Press Releases
Online Press Release Set-up GuideWelcome! This guide will teach you more about the Network Solutions® Online Press Release service.
What is the Difference Between an Online Press Release and a Regular Press Release?
In the past, traditional press releases were written and sent directly to journalists who deemed whether your business announcement would make it past their desk and into a story. Now, with Online Press Releases, your business announcements are written in a press release that is both optimized for search engine results and released online, often directly to the consumer or target audience.
In addition to reaching consumers directly, Online Press Releases contain keyword-rich links back to your website, which augment your search engine optimization efforts.
Online Press Releases are a quick and easy way to get your business announcement out quickly while helping your overall online marketing strategy with quality links to your website.
Getting Started
Step 1: Fill out the Press Release Questionnaire here: http://www.networksolutions.com/online-marketing/press-release-questionnaire.jsp.
Below is some useful information to help you complete the questionnaire:
- To write your press release, we will need details about your company, the owner, business beginnings as well as a description of what you would like to promote or announce. Types of announcements for a press release include:
- A special event or sale
- Achieving significant recognition in your industry
- Inventing, manufacturing or releasing an exciting new product or service
- Offering a distinct product or service that is unique - a "first" or "only" in the market space
- Performing an important service for the community
- Being present at or involved in a major news event
- Joining or taking leadership in a professional or community service organization
- Offering apprenticeships, training programs, classes, or opportunities to volunteer
- Teaching, lecturing, presenting or having products/services featured at a professional conference or trade show
- Grand opening of a site or a redesign
- Educational achievements of your staff relating to your industry
- In some cases, you can direct us to information on your website instead of filling in a certain part of the questionnaire. For example, if your website provides a full description of your company's story, you can direct us to that page. You may also send additional information (company brochures, etc.) by indicating on the questionnaire that you have supporting materials you would like to send.
- Please note: Complete contact information (name, phone number, email, zip code) must be provided before we begin writing the release, including the contact person's name that will appear next to the published release.
- Your press release may include up to two images. We can select these or you can specify which images/pages/logos from your website you want to include.
Tip: When filling out the questionnaire, Network Solutions® recommends entering your answers in a Word document and then pasting them into the form, as the form is submitted online and may time out.
Once we receive your completed Text Questionnaire, you will receive a draft of your press release from your Online Marketing Consultant within 2 business days (unless more information is needed.)
Step 2: Review your press release draft and return it to your Online Marketing Consultant with either approval or edit requests.
Please note: If you request edits, the revised release will be re-submitted to you for approval.
Step 3: Tell your Online Marketing Consultant what day you would like to publish the release.
Please note: We need to know your desired release date at least 1 business day in advance.
Press Release Distribution
Once you approve your press release, we will upload it to PRWeb.com. PRWeb will distribute your press release online through the following channels:
- Email Distribution - PRWeb® maintains a database of approximately 100,000 media contacts, newsrooms, industry analysts, and freelance writers who receive daily e-mail listings of press releases that match their filter criteria.
- Syndicated News Feed - Headlines are available to other websites through the XML/RSS newsfeed (http://www.prweb.com/rss.php). The addition of this newsfeed to the system increases exposure of your press release.
- Through PRWeb.com - PRWeb® generates millions of page views per month. A "page view" occurs when someone views your press release. All press releases are posted on the site indefinitely. Press releases are only removed from the site if the originator deletes them from our system or they do not meet editorial guidelines.
- Search Engine Submission - For maximum visibility, each press release distributed through the service is optimized for search engines. Search engines regularly "spider" the site and index the press releases.
We will send you a link once the press release is live online. A week later, we will send you a statistical report that details your press release results.
For a complete Online Marketing Campaign, we suggest creating and distributing periodic Online Press Releases to complement your other Search Engine Marketing efforts such as ongoing Search Engine Optimization on Pay Per Click campaigns.
