Introduction

You can specify different products in your store to be associated to a particular product.  This will give your customers views of other products they might like to purchase that are related to their purchase or that you recommend they purchase (Figure A).  Once you have associated products to your product, you can then control various areas of the cart to display these associated products.

Related vs. Recommended Products

Related and recommended products serve two purposes for a merchant.

  • A Related Product is intended to be an alternative product.  For example, if you like creamy peanut butter, you might also consider chunky peanut butter.  Related products can be shown on a Product Layout page by drawing the feed onto the page.
  • A Recommended Product is a complimentary product.  If you add a product to your cart, you then show them additional products that makes the product they just added to the cart a good suggestion.  For example, if you added chunky peanut butter to your cart, you should consider grape jelly and wheat bread products as well.

To Associate Products to the Related or Recommended Products List(s)

  1. Click in the checkbox next to the product name (Figure B) in the Available Products list.
    • If you have many products, the list will be paged.  You can scroll through the pages or click on a page number to go directly to that page.  There is also a Search field that will display a list of available products based on the search term entered.
  2. Click the right arrow button to add it to the Products List
  3. Next select the Related or Recommended checkboxes to identify if the product is an alternative or complimentary product.
  4. Repeat this procedure for each product you want to include in your related products.

To Remove Products from the Related or Recommended Products List(s)

  1. Click the checkbox next to a Product in the Products List
  2. Click Remove Selected for one selection or multiple selections, or click Remove All to clear all associated products in the list.

Define Rules

A merchant can also set up rules that will have the software determine which products are Related or Recommended based on criteria set by the merchant (Figure C).

Related:  This checkbox indicates you want products that meet the criteria to be alternative products.

Recommended:  This checkbox will make products meeting this criteria to be set as complimentary products.  Checking both boxes will add the associated product to both lists.

Type:  Is the rule qualifier.  You can identify rules based on Keyword, Category, Manufacturer, Warehouse, or Product Attribute.

Keyword:  You can determine a keyword (ex. "Red") will make any products with that keyword be in the bulk rule.

Category:  Any products found within that category or sub-category will be placed in the associated products list(s).

Manufacturer:  Any products from that particular manufacturer will be associated to the current product.

Warehouse:  Products set to that warehouse will be in the associated product list(s).

Product Attribute:  Any products with a particular product attribute will be auto assigned to associate products list.

Limit to: Will limit the number of products associated to the rule.  This will minimize the user from being overwhelmed with choices.

Enable:  This checkbox is a simple way to enable/disable the rule.
