Selecting a Strong Password

Your password is your key to your Network Solutions® account. If someone obtains your username and password they can change your contact information, re-point your website or even transfer out the domain. So, choose your password carefully and keep it safe.

Here are some tips for choosing a strong password — one that is difficult to guess.

Choose a password you'll remember
It should be memorable for you (so that you don't have to write it down or leave it in the open), but difficult for others to guess. Avoid using a word from a dictionary (English or otherwise) or a Proper Name.

The more characters the better
The longer your password is, the more difficult it is for someone to guess. Use a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and special characters (! @ # $ % ^ & *). Your Network Solutions password is case-sensitive, which means that an uppercase A is different from a lowercase a.

Avoid personal information
Don’t use a password based on information easily obtained about you (like your birthday, your child or pet's name, favorite sports team, employer, school name or street name). Also don't use your Network Solutions User ID in any form (such as reversed, capitalized, or doubled).

Don’t make it obvious
Repeating a number or letter (like "2222" or "AAAA") or using common sequences (like "1234" or “ABCD”) makes it easy to guess. Stay away from obvious words such as "welcome" or "password." When you change your password, change several characters; don't just append a number like "2" to the end.

Put a new spin on a familiar phrase
Pick a favorite phrase or lyric for your password. To shorten it, substitute letters with a number or a standard symbol or remove vowels. For example, "goodidea" can be made into "G00dIde@." Shorten "oneforthemoney" to "14daMoney," or combine "fire" and "ice" into "f1reN1ce."
