SSL Service Overview

Required Information

Our SSL service, provided by our MyTime Support™ Team, installs an SSL certificate on your third party server.

We will install all of the certificates issued for the domain, which includes the domain certificate and all applicable CA (Certificate Authority) certificates.

To ensure proper installation, the following prerequisites must be met:

  • A properly configured and functioning server, i.e., web, email, that has a static IP address and a fully qualified domain name that resolves to that IP address and that is accessible from the Internet.
  • Familiarity with your server's operation, such as stopping or restarting services or configuring server ports.
  • Administrator privileges to the server sufficient to perform all tasks necessary to complete the installation.
  • Remote or direct access to the server so we may perform activities on the server using either (in order of preference) Logmein Rescue Console or Windows RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol)
  • A port (usually 443) that is open and accessible for passing traffic from the Internet to which the SSL will be assigned.

In addition, information on the following must be provided, if applicable:

  • Any existing SSL certificates currently in use and which will need to stay functional during the installation of the Network Solutions SSL or generating a CSR (Certificate Signing Request).
  • Any previous attempts to generate a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) or install an SSL that have failed and any associated error messages.
  • Any requirements for a SAN (Subject Alternative Name) certificate, such as used commonly on Microsoft Exchange Servers.
  • Any other configuration outside of a vanilla server passing web or mail traffic which may affect the installation of the SSL.

Service Details

Please note the following regarding this service:

  • After the Network Solutions SSL certificate has been installed, there may be issues which result from the site serving secure content where the content is coded in such a way as to break security. This can be caused by sites using Iframes, references to outside sources which are coded with absolute references such as src=http://...., outside javascript references, and outside image sources. These are common to any SSL installation and should be anticipated.
  • Some servers require restarting after the installation of a SSL certificate. MyTime Support Technicians will not perform any server administrative tasks such as stopping or restarting services that could cause the server to become unresponsive. As there are many circumstances beyond our control, we will not take such actions, but instead defer to you to properly restart the server, if necessary. The installation of an SSL in itself will have no bearing on the functionality of a server.
  • There may be situations where functions such as redirects or forwarding affect how a URL may display. We will not configure or troubleshoot any redirects or forwarders that require the SSL to display security only on a particular page of a site. Our services are intended to install the SSL on the server itself, and any specific SSL targeting for pages will not be addressed.
  • Some browsers, such as Internet Explorer, may have settings that display errors about some certificates because the settings are set too stringently. Some browsers, such as Firefox, are more forgiving on such issues.

Our representatives are available Monday - Friday (9:00 am - 8:00 pm ET) to answer your questions.  You can reach us by calling 888-745-7477.
