Managing Advanced DNS Records

Article Rating: 1 / 5 Votes: 53

The Difference between “Move Domain Name Servers” (DNS) and using “Advanced DNS Manager”

You have two options for modifying your domain name servers (DNS) through Account Manager:

1.  “Move Domain Name Servers” – for users who want to resolve or point their domain name to another provider’s DNS.

Please Note

If you move your domain name servers, you will lose the ability to use any Network Solutions website, email, or web forwarding that you have associated with that domain.

2.  “Advanced DNS Manager” – for experienced users who want to manage the A, MX, CNAME, TXT, SRV and TTL records for their domain name.

Please Note

Changes made to Advanced DNS settings may cause you to lose access to another provider’s existing email and websites.

The significant difference between the two is that when you use the Advanced DNS Manager option to manage your individual records, you can keep some services active with Network Solutions® (e.g., e-mail, web forwarding), but host your domain elsewhere. Selecting Advanced DNS Manager will move any configured Name Servers to Network Solutions, overwriting any existing Name Servers.

Network Solutions strongly recommends that only experienced users take advantage of this option.
