Tracking Statistics in WordPress

Adding Statistics to your Web Hosting for WordPress® installation

To add statistics support to your Web Hosting for WordPress® installation, you need to get an API key by creating a WordPress.com account, and then enable the "WordPress.com Stats" plugin.

Getting an API Key

  • Go to www.wordpress.com and sign up for an account.
  • During the signup process, choose "Just a username please".
  • You will receive an activation email with a link you must click on to active your account.
  • Once your WordPress.com is activated, go back to www.wordpress.com and sign in.
  • Click on the "My Account" link.
  • Click on the "Edit Profile" link.
  • At the top of the page, you should see your API key. Copy it because you will need it.

Enabling WordPress.com Stats

To add statistics to your nsHosting for WordPress installation, you need to enable the "WordPress.com stats" plugin. To do so:

  • Log into Account Manager.
  • Click on WordPress.
  • Optionally, select your WordPress package (if you have more than one).
  • Click on the "Login to WordPress" button and enter your login credentials.
  • Click the "Plugins" button.
  • Click the "Activate" button for the WordPress.com stats plugin.

After enabling the plugin, you will see the following message in red at the top of the screen:

WordPress.com Stats needs attention: please enter an API key or disable the plugin. Click on the "WordPress.com Stats" link and enter the API key for your WordPress.com account. After clicking the "Add" button, you will be able to see your blog stats in your WordPress dashboard.
