When I Click The Submit Button On A FrontPage Web Form, I Receive A Runtime Error Message

Article Rating: 1 / 5 Votes: 4

Note: Microsoft FrontPage extensions are no longer available on new accounts, because they are no longer supported by Microsoft.

This Runtime error occurs for one of the following two reasons:

Hyperlinks need to be recalculated

To recalculate the hyperlinks:

  1. Open your FrontPage software
  2. Click on Tools in the main menu and select Recalculate Hyperlinks
  3. Refresh the search page in the browser and perform the search again
  4. If the problem is not solved, you can force the recalculation of hyperlinks by finding and deleting the following files:

n Deptodoc.btr

n Doctodep.btr.

a. Next select the folder _vti_txt and delete the following files:

  •
    • All.dct
    • All.doc
    • All .fmt
    • All.fn
    • All.hl
    • All.idx
    • All.inv
    • All.src

b. Then recalculate the hyperlinks using the same method as above

Then republish your Web site.

The _vti_bin folder is missing from the Web site

To verify this, enter the following address in your Web browser: http://www.mysite.com/_vti_bin/shtml.dll (where mysite.com is your domain name)

If you receive the following error message: “page cannot be found” then the _vti_bin folder is missing from the Web site, and the FrontPage Server Extensions need to be reinstalled to re-create the folder. FrontPage extensions can be reinstalled from the Hosting Control Panel.
