Builder brands: Permission policy for Email Marketing

At Network Solutions, we encourage users to send email marketing campaigns to contacts that genuinely want to receive updates. Any campaigns sent without the expectation and permission of the recipient are considered spam. The origin and level of permission granted by your contacts will determine the email addresses you are permitted to send to, which we have outlined below.

Note: In addition to Network Solutions' permission policy, all users must comply with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). By using the subscribe and contact form sections within Builder brands intelligent editor, you will ensure that you receive and have documentation of expressed consent from contacts that satisfies these requirements.

Who can you email

Your Network Solutions' Builder brands Creative Mail Email Marketing account will allow you to add or import lists of users to your contacts manually. You can do so as long as each of these contacts has given you permission to email them. There are two types of permission that you are granted by your contacts:

Expressed permission

Express or an explicit permission is when an individual has opted in or requested to get your emails. Some examples of this are:

  • Someone who signs up to receive your emails through a sign-up form on your webpage or when checking out from your store.
  • People who sign up using a form with the specific purpose of being added to a mailing list, such as a leads program through Facebook.

Implied permission

Implied or implicit permission happens through a client or customer relationship. For example, you may get implicit permission through:

  • The exchange of business cards.
  • A verbal request.
  • A fishbowl collection where no consent to email is asked.
  • The sale of a product or service.
  • An inquiry about a product or service.
  • A donation to your non-profit organization.
  • Membership in your organization.

Who can’t you email

You are not permitted to add or import names that go against our permission or anti-spam policies; doing so could lead to the suspension of your account. For more information, please see our anti-spam policy for details. Examples that violate these policies include, but are not limited to:

  • No matter what the source claims, any purchased, rented, or appended list of email addresses from any source.
  • Any shared list of email addresses that haven’t given you direct permission to email, such as:
    • An affiliated company contact list.
    • A trade show attendee list.
  • Any non-specific or role email addresses. Some examples of role addresses include:
  • Any distribution list or mailing list. These are lists where an email address will connect or mail to several others, like:
    • A voter registration list.
    • Public directories.
    • Membership association contacts.
    • Chamber of Commerce.
  • Any collected email addresses were obtained by surfing the internet or "scraping" web pages.
  • Any addresses obtained through social media connections where the contact has not explicitly requested mailings. This includes:
    • Facebook friends.
    • LinkedIn connections.
    • Twitter followers.
    • Instagram followers.
