It should be easy to set up email on your iPhone and iPad, but sometimes, users need help to add their business email accounts to their devices successfully. This guide aims to give users the methods for iPhone and iPad email setup troubleshooting and answer FAQs to get over typical issues that arise when setting up email on iOS devices.

Click on the FAQs below to find answers to the iPad and iPhone email troubleshooting steps.

For you to determine the mail server setting that you should be using, please visit the article How Do I Get Started with POP3 and IMAP? and go to Find your Email Settings section. Always make sure to check if the mail server settings given are inputted correctly, as this is the most common issue for iPad and iPhone email setups not working.

No, it will not. If you wish to load and pull up emails from your webmail or Cloud Mail, you may refer to the article How Do I Get Started with POP3 and IMAP?

This is typically a result of an incorrect setting related to your iPad or iPhone outgoing mail server settings. Please ensure you enter your full email address as the username and use the password set when creating the mailbox. Also, ensure the Outgoing server is correct. You can reference the article How Do I Update the Email Settings in My Email Client? to verify the settings.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to switch from POP3 to IMAP. You will need to reset the email settings on iPhone or iPad and set up the account again, using IMAP settings instead of POP settings. For more information, please review the article How Do I Set Up Email on My iPhone or iPad? if you need to back anything up, it is recommended to contact Apple Support for assistance.

Follow the steps below on how to sync all email folders to your device.
  1. Unlock your device and open the Settings icon.
  2. Scroll down and select Mail.
    Mail option

  3. Select Accounts.
    Acccounts option

  4. Choose the account you wish to update by clicking on it.
  5. Click on Account Settings.
  6. Go to Advanced.
  7. For each local folder, select the corresponding server folder by completing the steps below:
    1. Click on Drafts Mailbox and select the Draft folder listed under the section titled ON THE SERVER.
    2. Click on Sent Mailbox and select the Sent folder listed under the section titled ON THE SERVER.
    3. Click on Deleted Mailbox and select the Trash folder listed under the section titled ON THE SERVER.
    4. Click on Archived Mailbox and select the Archive folder listed under the section titled ON THE SERVER.

This is a result of the trash folder having a different naming convention between the mail server and the iPhone/iPad. However, it can be easily corrected by updating the subscription to the correct folder using the same steps to update IMAP folder subscriptions.

Follow these steps to fix this issue:

  1. Unlock your device and open the Settings icon.
  2. Scroll down and select Mail.
    Mail option

  3. Select Accounts.
    Acccounts option

  4. Choose the account you wish to update by clicking on it.
  5. Click on Account Settings.
  6. Go to Advanced.
