File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is the standard method for transferring files between your computer (the client) and your website's server. If your website builder requires you to upload files directly to your server, you'll need to download an FTP client. Before setting it up, create an FTP user account which you can do in your Hosting Tools.

How to create FTP users

1. Log in to your account via https://www.networksolutions.com/my-account/login.
2. Click Websites & Hosting on the left menu.
   
   
   
    
3. Click the Manage button next to the hosting plan you would like to update.
   
   
   
    
4. On the left menu, click on FTP Management.
   
   
    
   Note: You will only see the FTP Management option if you have a hosting plan. Otherwise, it will not be visible on your account.
5. You can see any existing FTP user accounts and also add a new FTP user. To add another user, click on Add FTP Account.
   
   
   
    
6. Enter your new user information. You can give this user permission to access all directories or only specific ones. The root directory is represented by a forward slash ( / ).
   
   
   
    
7. When finished, click Create User.

How to resolve an error when trying to create an FTP user

• There was a problem creating your FTP account: You have not created the directory/website. Please create this directory or check to ensure that you have included the full path.
  • This means the system cannot find the website folder you designated as the FTP user's Home directory. Create the website folder and try again, or select a different website folder to use as the Home directory.
• There was a problem creating your FTP account. We are sorry; there is already an FTP account with that name. Please choose again.
  • FTP usernames must be unique across all users on the FTP server, not just within your hosting account. Choose a different username and try again.
• There was a problem creating your FTP account: Your password must contain a letter and at least one digit and one punctuation character.
  • All FTP passwords must meet our minimum security requirements. Create a password that contains at least one letter, one number, and one punctuation character, then try again.
• There was a problem creating your FTP account: Username must be at least 3 characters long and can only contain letters, numbers, "-", and "_".
  • FTP usernames must be at least three characters long and can contain only letters, numbers, hyphens (-), and underscores (_). Update the username and try again.
• There was a problem creating your FTP account: Password and Password Confirmation do not match.
  • Ensure that the Password and Password Confirmation fields contain the same value, then try again.
