What is a Domain Transfer Authorization Code?

Most domain name extensions require an Authorization Code when transferring domains from one domain registrar to another. Authorization codes help to reduce the risk of hijacking and fraud. An authorization code is also called an Auth Code or EPP Key in the domain name industry.

Your authorization code will be a combination of letters and numbers.

For Network Solutions, the authorization code will be emailed to your Registrant’s email on file with us within three days of your request. Other registrars may display the authorization code in your account.

You can obtain your domain authorization code from the registrar where you registered your domain. For example, if your domain was registered with Network Solutions, you will need to contact Network Solutions to request the code.

A Form of Authorization (FOA) email is sent to you from your current registrar. If the domain transfer was initiated in error (e.g., without your permission and/or an attempted domain hijack), you must respond to this email to prevent the domain transfer.

This email is sent to the Registrant’s email on file for your domain. If you are unsure whether you can access this email address, contact your current domain provider. You may also ask them to update your Registrant Email and request a waiver of the 60-day Change of Registrant lock. Keep in mind that while ICANN permits providers to waive this lock, they are not required to do so.

After providing the domain transfer authorization code, the domain transfer has been authorized. There are two steps to authorize your domain transfer to our company. Both steps are required by ICANN, the international association that governs the domain industry.

For most domain extensions, a transfer between registrars will take five to seven days from the time you authorize it. Some, such as country-code domain names, may take longer to process or require additional steps.

• Step 1: Request the Authorization Code. An Authorization Code (Auth Code or EPP Key) is like a password; it helps prevent unauthorized transfers of your domain. Most domain name providers allow you to request the authorization code via their online control panel. If you cannot find this feature, contact your current provider’s customer service team.
• Step 2: Give the authorization code to your new registrar to initiate the transfer process. Once submitted, your current registrar will send you an email confirming the transfer request. This step serves as an additional security measure to help protect against unauthorized activity.

You should enter your authorization code on the Transfer In page. Follow these steps to enter your authorization code.

1. Log in to your Account Manager via https://www.networksolutions.com/my-account/login
2. On the left side of the page, select Domains.
   
   
    
3. Once the menu shows, select Start Transfer In.
   
   
    
4. Enter the domain name that you want to transfer into your account in the field provided.
   
   
    
5. Complete the process on the Order Summary page. Then, click on the CONTINUE TO CHECKOUT button.
6. Review the checkout page. Once done, click on the SUBMIT PAYMENT button to complete the order.
7. You’ll receive an email at the account holder’s email address on file in your Network Solutions account, requesting the authorization code from the losing registrar. Delivery may take 2–4 hours. Once you receive it, click the link in the email and enter the authorization code to begin the transfer.
