How to Set Up Microsoft 365 Email in Thunderbird
Looking to set up your Microsoft 365 email in Thunderbird? This step-by-step guide shows you how to connect Thunderbird to your Microsoft 365 account using either IMAP or POP3 settings. We’ll walk you through the manual configuration process so you can manage your Microsoft 365 emails efficiently within Thunderbird.
Note: The steps below apply to Mac and Windows.
How to Set Up Email on Mozilla Thunderbird 8.0
- Open Mozilla Thunderbird. You have the following options:
- If it is your first time opening Thunderbird, a dialog box will open to set up your mail account. Proceed to step 2.
- If the dialog box to set up your mail account does not open, go to Tools, then click Account Settings. Under Account Actions, select Add Mail Account.
- In the dialog box to set up your mail account, follow the steps below:
- Within the Your Name field, type the name you want to use and appear on the “From” line for outgoing messages.
- Within the Email Address field, enter your Microsoft 365 email address.
- Within the Password field, enter your password. Click the Configure manually link.
- Under Incoming Server, make sure each field has the following information:
- Protocol: IMAP
- Hostname: outlook.office365.com
- Port: 993
- Connection security: SSL/TLS
- Authentication method: 0Auth2
- Username: your email address
- Under Outgoing Server, make sure each field has the following information:
- Hostname: smtp.office365.com
- Port: 587
- Connection security: STARTTLS
- Authentication method: 0Auth2
- Username: your email address
- Once you have added your email settings, click Done. You will then be prompted to enter your Microsoft 365 email password.
- Enter your password, then sign in.
- Follow the steps on your screen until you receive confirmation that you have added your Microsoft 365 account to Thunderbird.

To set up Microsoft 365 email in Thunderbird, enter your account details and manually configure the IMAP and SMTP settings.
