Access and Restore Your Website Backups: A How-To Guide

Our hosting services provide tools to help you keep your website files safe. This guide will walk you through how to access and restore your website backups and explain the two different backup types available to you: our free, automatic Daily Snapshots and the on-demand CodeGuard paid service.

Important: This article applies to customers who have Shared Hosting. If you have WordPress Hosting, please refer to How to Back Up and Restore a WordPress Website.

In this article, we'll cover:

How to Access Website Backups

  1. Log in to your Account Manager via https://www.networksolutions.com/my-account/login.
  2. From the left-hand menu, click the Hosting tab.

  3. Depending on the number of Hosting packages in your account, the Hosting section's interface may look slightly different. Full descriptions of each feature are discussed below.
     
    • If you only have one Hosting package in your account, you will be redirected to the Hosting Package Overview page details page right away.

    • If you have multiple Hosting packages in your account, click the MANAGE button on the respective Hosting package that you need to modify.

  4. In the Hosting Control Panel, scroll down to the Configurations section and click the Website Backups option.

How to Restore Files and Download Backups in the Account Manager (Free)

Once you have accessed the Website Backups page, you will see a list of available Daily Snapshots. These are automatic backups of your website created by our system. This feature allows you to:

Restore Snapshot

  1. You will find available backups under the Daily Snapshot section. Locate the date of backup you want to restore, then click the Restore to Snapshot link.

  2. A warning pop-up will appear, stating that the restore process will overwrite your current website files. Click Continue » to proceed.

  3. A notification will appear stating that there is a 15-minute processing delay. Please give it a few minutes to process your backup restore request.
Important: Restoring from a snapshot will overwrite all of your current website files. This action cannot be undone. If your backup is over 2 GB, please contact support for assistance with the restoration.

 

Download Backups

  1. Under the Daily Snapshot section, you will find the daily backups created in your account, including the last 7 days. Locate the date of the backup you would like to download, then click the Download link.

  2. A notification will appear stating that there is a 15-minute processing delay. Please give it a few minutes to process your backup download request.
  3. After a few minutes, another notification will appear with a link that you can click to download your backup. Click the provided link to initiate the downloading process.

  4. A .tar.gz file will be downloaded to your computer.

 

How to Back up a Website Using CodeGuard (Paid Service)

Once you have accessed the Website Backups page, you can also choose CodeGuard, which gives you more control over your backup schedule and allows you to create an on-demand, compressed copy (a .zip file) of your website at any time.

To use this feature, scroll down past the Daily Snapshots section and click the Get CodeGuard Now>> button, then follow the prompts to purchase and run CodeGuard.
