How to Back up and Restore a WordPress Website

Important: If you have CodeGuard and want to back up your website and database, please refer to How Do I Use CodeGuard to Back Up My Websites to Cloud?

Overview

Backing up your website and database is vital, especially when you make changes to your site. In case you overwrite files that you need and accidentally delete important files or your website, backups help you in a way where you don't need to start from scratch to have your site up and running. Network Solutions® automatically backs up your WordPress website and database nightly. These backups are stored on a rolling 14 days, and you can select whichever version you want to restore.

Note: Restoring your website will cause it to be unavailable during the restore process.

Follow the steps below to restore your website and database to a previous state.

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. Click WordPress on the left navigation.

WordPress Packages

  1. If you have multiple WordPress packages, select the package you want to fix, then click the Manage button.
  2. Select Backups under the Security section of the WordPress Control Panel.

Backups

  1. Select a backup version you want to restore, then click the Restore button. By clicking the Restore button, your website will be overwritten by your chosen version.

Restore Backup

For a better backup solution, we recommend CodeGuard. Unlike the built-in backup solution we have, CodeGuard allows you to back up your site anytime you want and allows you to download a local copy of the website and database backup that you can access anytime. See What is CodeGuard? for more information.
