How to Manage Your Domain WHOIS Information
Domain contact information is required by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and by Registries upon registration of a domain name. This contact information is then entered into the WHOIS/RDAP database, and when necessary, the domain owner can be contacted on different issues concerning their domain.
While domain contact may sound similar to account contact, these are two distinct concepts that play a crucial role in managing your digital assets effectively. If you are looking for instructions on how to manage Account Contacts, please refer to How Do I Add and Edit Account Contacts?

What are the Domain Contacts and Permissions?
Every domain name has a Domain Owner, who is the legal authority for the domain and can manage permission and access rights for the Domain Contacts within the account. Domain Contacts are the official contacts associated with your domain name at the domain registry, in the public WHOIS/RDAP database, and with ICANN, the governing body for domain names. Learn more about the different types of domain contacts.
The contacts that automatically get assigned to your domain are the following:
- Owner - The individual or organization who owns the domain.
- Administrative - The individual authorized to make decisions and answer questions about the domain.
- Technical - The individual to contact who handles technical settings for the domain.
- Billing - The individual or organization that manages the billing and payment details of the domain.
