Why am I being asked to make this choice?
Network Solutions feels strongly that personal information should be kept private. However, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the organization that oversees the domain name system, requires the name, address, e-mail, and phone number of domain name holders to be listed in the public, searchable WHOIS database. We developed our Private Registration service to help shield you from spam, fraud, or telemarketers.
How does it work?
As a trusted domain name registrar, Network Solutions is authorized by ICANN to provide alternative information for your domain's listing in WHOIS. Your domain name and contact name are displayed in the WHOIS database, but it will be our contact information viewable with the account — not yours.
