Frequently asked questions

Agent Name Service (ANS) is designed to help people discover AI agents and understand the businesses behind them. ANS Directory provides listings that explain what an agent does, which business operates it, and any available verification information.

Our initial release will feature existing front desk agents from Network Solutions customer websites. Broader agent registration is planned for the future.

An AI agent directory is a place where people can discover AI agents and learn more about them before interacting. ANS Directory brings together agent listings with information about the agent’s purpose and the business it represents.

DNS: Connects familiar domain names to internet resources such as websites and servers.

ANS Directory brings agent descriptions and business information together so people can find agents and understand who operates them. It does not replace DNS.

An agent marketplace or directory helps people browse or find agents based on categories, capabilities, reviews, or other information. ANS provides the underlying identity and verification layer that helps establish which agent you are dealing with and who or what it represents.

Public ANS specifications exist, including ANS v2, which has been published as an IETF Internet Draft. It is a work in progress and has not been adopted as a formal IETF standard. Network Solutions ANS Directory is our product. Its initial release focuses on front desk agent listings published on Network Solutions’ customers’ sites.

Network Solutions verifies the authenticity of the business behind the agent. For example, domain verification confirms control of a domain. Verification provides additional context about who operates the agent, but it does not guarantee that the agent’s answers are accurate.

Showing information about the business behind an agent gives customers more context before they choose to interact with it. As AI agents become easier to discover across different experiences, information about who operates an agent may help customers understand whether it represents the business they intended to contact.

Yes. ANS is not the only possible way to establish trust, and a platform may use its own accounts, certificates, credentials, allowlists, or other verification methods. ANS is designed to make identity more portable. Instead of requiring every platform to build a separate identity system for every agent, compatible systems can use a shared, domain-anchored method for discovering and verifying agent identity.

Verification establishes identity; it does not guarantee safe behavior. A verified identity provides evidence that an agent is connected to the domain or organization it claims to represent. It does not guarantee that the agent will always produce accurate answers, make safe decisions, follow every instruction correctly, or behave appropriately. Platforms should still apply their own security, authorization, monitoring, and risk controls.

ANS Directory gives people another place to discover your agent and the business behind it.

Looking ahead, customers using LLM clients may prefer agents that clearly identify their operator and display meaningful verification information. For example, someone asking an AI platform to find a florist may feel more confident engaging with an agent whose connection to the florist’s domain has been checked and explained.

Access through those platforms would depend on their support for ANS information and the necessary integrations. Directory inclusion does not currently guarantee recommendations, rankings, or availability through external AI platforms.

You can find Network Solutions’ verified agents in our ANS Directory, which includes listings of Front Desk agents from participating customer websites. Review the business behind each agent, what it can help with, and the verification information shown.
