If there's a certain domain name you want, such as my-domain.extension, you can check the domain availability of different top-level domains. For example, my-domain.com, my-domain.org, etc. Depending on the availability of each, you might be able to register several domain names with several TLDs.

When your domain expires, it will become deactivated and all services attached to it become inactive. There is a 30-day grace period to renew your domain name. After that, it’ll still be possible to renew your domain, but you’ll have to pay a reinstatement fee.
